Your Easter egg may have only lasted a day or two, but the packaging lives on for many years.
These little chocolate treats may taste nice but they are a SERIOUS threat to the planet. Keep reading to find out how much harm these eggs-tremely evil products can do to the environment.
Scary facts about Easter egg packaging
- A recent study showed that a Thorntons Easter egg was 36.4% packaging. That’s more than a third of the weight!
- Easter chocolate packaging generates more than 4,300 tonnes of card and 160 tonnes of foil waste per year.
- 59% of British adults said that they thought Easter eggs are over-packaged and believe brands should take steps to reduce packaging.
My personal veto goes to Kinder Eggs. Not only did the old eggs have a plastic tub containing a plastic toy but the new ones have a plastic shell, plastic covers, a plastic toy and a plastic spoon!

Did you know?
Every year over 80 million boxed chocolate shell eggs are sold, not to mention all the Creme Eggs and Mini Eggs!
Remember to…..
Always reduce, reuse and recycle!
